Treasure Hunter is a short collect-a-thon platform game made in GameMaker: Studio by myself. It was one of my first projects I made completely on GameMaker. Heavily inspired by Life of Pixel, which I've played on Steam, I wanted to make a simple and short collect-a-thon platform game where there is no checkpoints, power-ups, or game over screen. It also has a full-screen option and Xbox controller support.
I reworked this game project over the years. Originally, it is going to have three different difficulty levels, but I decided to make the levels more enjoyable and keep the game's mechanics balanced. I made adjustments to the gameplay, designed a new logo for its title, and ensured a fair and fun game for all gamers.
Inspired by collect-a-thon platformers, your main goal to play as a treasure hunter to collect coins while avoiding dangerous obstacles. There are 10 coins in each level and when you collect all of the coins, you will be able to open a chest and complete a level. In some levels, you will find a key to unlock a gate, push a crate, or use an exclamation point switch to turn a platform on for a limited time.
To make a homage to the 8-bit games during the Nintendo Entertainment System era in the 1980s, I made the most of the pixel art in GameMaker. I made some of the animations for the player, waterfall, coin, key, and flashing blocks. Also, I made each tile of the hills and ground for the game's background.
