Orbital Upload is a 3D fixed shooter arcade game where you are controlling a player's ship to try to find a weakness in an alien ship's shield by scanning the destruction code before it can destroy you. It was made in 48-hour non-stop competition in 2018 Huntsville Global Game Jam and completely made in Unity engine. The theme of Global Game Jam is "transmission." My role as a game designer is to create gameplay rules and mechanics and to coordinate with other team members to ensure quality assurance in gameplay and testing within a project timeline.
You can download and play the game by clicking here at Global Game Jam website.
The gameplay is similar to Gyruss, presented in a forced 3D perspective, with the player's ship moving around the spherical spaceship. The spherical alien spaceship is also protected by invisible shield around it, so your goal is to find a weakness in their shield by "transmitting" a code. When you have found a weakness that resembles an open border, your ship can auto-fire toward the spaceship. When the "upload" score reaches 100%, you advance to the next level and the shield rolls randomly for a second. To try and stop your ship, the spherical spaceship sends their enemy ships, so they can follow you and shoot to hit you. Sometimes the spherical spaceship can create a radiation of electromagnetic waves and must hit you. When your ship's health drops to 0%, your ship exploded and the game is restarted to the first level. Or you can press the ESC key to bring you back to the main menu. It also have a leaderboard, allowing you to play for the highest score.
